Let's Talk about . . .
Making A Snow Globe for Paint Shop Pro

Sorry, no java browser

So many of you have asked me how to make your applet look like a snowglobe. It really is a lot simpler than you might think. It is just a matter of using a gif overlay image which covers the applet and gives the appearance of the snowglobe. First you will need to use an applet that allows for a frame or gif overlay. For the tutorial I am using the DS_Snow Applet. Anfy also allows you to use a frame image with their An_Snow applet as do a few others. You are not limited to the number of applets that you might be able to use.

You can download a zip file with the class file and sniplets of code for the

DS_Applet here.

Also, you can download a zip file with the globe and base tubes that I used for the

snow globe here.

I also included some others that I thought you might like. For the applet you see in the example above, I used the globe-rndclrdark tube and for the base I used enclosed, can convert the tubes for use in your version of PSP. You can try this tutorial using your own image, or right click on mine and save picture as to use the image I did.

Here is my image.....

We will begin by first adding a layer to the image.

That will allow us to use the deformation tool to align the globe where we want it to be once you have tubed it onto the main image.

After your globe is in place, merge your layers.

Next cut the image back to the edges of the globe.....

you don't have to be precise on this, just estimate.

Now you need to click on file/add border. I used 20px, but you can use more if you like. This will allow us to add a base and corner trim if we want.

Next, using the selection tool . . .

Begin at the middle of the globe and select the entire globe. This may take a few times to get it. Remember that what you are selecting will be what you see of the globe, so be careful not to go too far outside the edge of the globe.

Once you have selected the globe, you now want to click on Selections/Invert

This will select the area around the globe.

Then click on Edit/clear. The color that you use for this should be somewhat compatible with your image.

Copy/Paste as a new image an you have your frame....
