Let's make our website . . .
on Angelfire

Let's begin by clicking on the line to angelfire @  www.angelfire.com and creating a site.
You will need to establish a sign on name and a
password.  The sign on name will get you into the site.
Be sure to use something that you will be able to
easily remember.

Once you have a site name, you should become familiar with your web addy.  You will use it alot in your stationery and webpages.  Let's use mine as an example.  My sign on name is pa5/karebear16226.
therefore my addy at angelfire would be....

Now, let's get into the file manager.....
You will need to go to angelfire main page and sign in.
Look for this box in the upper left hand corner

That will take you to a page where you will see this,

You will need your to type in your sign on and password, then click on Log In and that will take you to the webshell.  Once you are there, you will want to set up your account
so that any ads will popup instead of staying on the
page.  For this you will click on my account on the left
hand side....

Once you get into the account, you will want to change
the ads to popup.

Now that you have done that, return to the webshell.  I have had to explain the webshell in 2 pieces, so bear with me.  First of all, this is the top section.  It shows the various files and where you would place them.  You will notice that there is an indication of exactly where you are in the webshell since it all looks so similar.  It is easy to get confused as to exactly where you have uploaded something, but don't despair.  You can delete, move, copy...etc.

The first part i have shown you involves the editing files and folders.  The second part of the shell is for uploading and transloading. Uploading files can be tricky at first.  But, once you get used to a system, of uploading things in a certain place, you will be able to do it more quickly.
Remember that, just as in your stationery folder in your
C: Drive of your computer, when you use a folder, you
must add that to your pathway.  It is important to understand also, that for a stationery, you must use
the entire pathway.

For example.....if i put a file in the applets folder the pathway
to it for a stationery the pathway would be....

and, if i were using this same image on my webpage
the address would simply be....

"applets/image.jpg"

The transloader is for transferring whole sites, and you
will probably not be using that option.

Now that you are set up, you are ready to build your site.
When you go into the webshell there may or may not already be folders in there.  There will usually be
an index.html which is your main page, and possibly an images folder.  I suggest that you use this folder for main page files and images that you may want to use again and again for easy access.  I advise you to make a music folder, an applets folder, and if you plan to make stationery pages to share, maybe even a statoinery folder.

It is a good idea to design some type of main page as soon as possible.  It is the gateway to your site.  I would suggest that you choose a favorite stationery, save the notepad document as index.html and upload it to your site.  Be sure to remove the Doc tag at the top and any Meta tags you see before you upload it.  You can type a message in your text, make it basic.....you can always edit it onsite....or upload a newer version later.

Now you have access to the file manager
on your angelfire site....
I hope that you have found some
useful information here.
Good Luck with your site !

Hugs,

Karen
