COMPRESSING WAV FILES
I have been asked to do a
tutorial on compressing a wav file. I think it might be helpful in
keeping our file sizes smaller. I am on cable, so I don't have a
problem with full size wavs. But, if you are on a dial-up, it can
get a bit nasty, especially when the files don't download for you.
We are all friends here.......and so, with that in mind, it is
always best to make all your files as small as you can to help someone
else out.
Here is what you do . . . .but remember, this may not
work with all wavs, but for most of them it will.
First, open
the wav using your sound recorder from windows..... you will find it by
clicking
Start/Programs/accessories/entertainment/soundrecorder

Then, once
you have it open, click on File/Open and search for your wav file in your
computer

go to file/open and browse for your wav file. click on
file/properties
and a box will pop up.....toward the
bottom you will see a little choice called convert now. click
there.......

use radio quality or cd
quality....whichever you like best and change the format to mpeg layer
3.......and the change the Attributes to 8kBit/s, 11,025 Hz, Mono 1KB/s
and click on okay. You will now see a box that will show you the new size
of the wav.

Then say OK again. You will want to be
sure to save your file. To do that, just click on File/Save As and name
your file.
I hope this little tutorial has been
helpful....Remember - Compress those files! If you have a larger file that
you want to use, you might try putting on your website and streaming it
from there. Simply use your website addy for the
pathway.

Karen
